Cut Flowers Offerings

Warm Season Tender Annuals

A universal term for any plant that produces from seed to mature flower in a single season. Often showing off the most colorful & dramatic displays in the heat of the summer. Starting transplants indoors can help to get a jump start on longer maturation times. Typically these plants are referred to as the easiest to grow and least hassle for the novice gardener.

Please note, most require replanting on a seasonal basis to maintain uniform stands of flowers. Recent hybridization efforts have created season extending cultivars; which allow for cuts to be picked throughout the growing season.

Cool Season Hardy Annuals

A collective term for any annual that is cold tolerant, relishing cooler daytime/nighttime temperatures, which typically allows the plant to overwinter in the grower’s specific USDA hardiness zone. Typically planted in the fall of the previous growing season, these resilient beauties are able to withstand the cool temperatures of fall/early spring. Most thrive as early transplants, and provide the earliest blooms of the cut flower season.

Perennial Cuts

Led by garden-inspired floral design, perennial cuts refer to a minimally disruptive approach of growing cut flowers that center around utilizing permanent plantings. Perennial cuts exemplify seasonality to their core.

They often require maturation (2-3 years) to establish & flower, but can be produced from bulbs, herbaceous plants, woodies, vines, or grasses. Their dependability is influenced by how well their peak flowering or fruiting seasons align with environmental and growing conditions. One should be warned that the Beth Chatto concept of “Right plant, right place” is imperative when setting up a perennial cutting garden.
